Es muy común escuchar o leer la palabra namaste en el ámbito del Yoga. En sánscrito, el idioma oficial de la India, la palabra namasté significa: “Me inclino ante ti” (hago una reverencia ante ti, un saludo o una postración). También significa: "Te honro y reconozco el yo superior en ti y en mí y establezco una conexión contigo desde nuestro yo superior y no desde nuestros egos". Así, tiene el significado espiritual de negar o reducir el ego de uno en presencia de otro.
Cuando decimos esta palabra al principio o al final de una clase, estamos aceptando la creencia de que la fuerza vital, la "divinidad", el "Ser" o el "Dios" en mí es el mismo en todo lo que me rodea, es decir, en ti.
Reconociendo esta unidad mientras unimos nuestras palmas, honramos a Dios en nosotros y en las personas que encontramos en nuestro camino, estableciendo un contacto profundo, dignificándonos como seres humanos y sobre todo relacionándonos desde la parte más elevada de nosotros mismos.

Why do we use the word "Namasté" in Yoga?

It is very common to hear or read the word namaste in the Yoga field.
In Sanskrit, the oficial language in India, the word namasté means: “I bow to you” (I bow my greetings, salutations or prostration to you).
It also means: "I honour you and recognize the higher self in you and in me and I establish a connection with you from our higher selves and not from our egos". So it has a spiritual significance of negating or reducing one's ego in the presence of another.
When we say that word at the beginning or at the end of a class we are accepting the belief that life force, the "divinity", the "Self" or the "God" in me is the same in all around me.
Acknowledging this unity as we join our palms, we honor God in us and in the people we meet on our way, establishing a deep contact, dignifying us as human beings and above all, connecting with each other from the highest part of ourselves.
